World War I Enlisted Men Final Military Pay Vouchers, 1917 - 1921

1917-1921

This series consists of two kinds of final pay vouchers for enlisted men: individual final pay vouchers and multi-name final pay vouchers. Individual final pay vouchers contain the name, rank, organization, date and place of enlistment, pay information, and character and date of discharge for only one soldier. Multi-name final pay vouchers include many soldiers who received final payments at the same time. Multi-name vouchers contain Army serial number, rank, date and place of enlistment, pay information, and character and date of discharge. Both voucher types contain the name of the Quartermaster who made the payment. The records were originally maintained by the Department of the Treasury's Office of the Auditor for the War Department. The General Accounting Office had responsibility for these records from 1921 to 1973 after which the National Archives and Records Administration assumed responsibility for the records.
